After a year of planning and construction, Metropolitan Community College (mccneb.edu) Construction and Building Science students watched as the 1,200-plus-square-foot Craftsman bungalow they built over the past four quarters as it was moved to its permanent site at 2861 Ellison Ave. in Miller Park.

MCC has partnered with Holy Name Housing Corp. (HNHC) to finance materials through HNHC’s affordable workforce housing initiative. More than 200 MCC students from plumbing, architecture, electrical and construction programs contributed to the project. This is the third home MCC students have built with HNHC and the seventh MCC-completed Capstone home overall.

Designed by MCC Architecture Design Technology students for a narrow lot, the home was built in four modules and features a pantry, custom-built cabinets, an eat-in kitchen, mixed-use space, two bedrooms and a laundry room. Each module will be transported via a flat-bed truck and placed on the foundation at its permanent address.

Metropolitan Community College, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, is a comprehensive, public community college that offers affordable, quality education to all residents of Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy and Washington counties. Founded in 1974, MCC has the largest enrollment out of six community colleges in Nebraska and is the second largest postsecondary institution in the state. MCC serves more than 40,000 unique credit and noncredit students.
