Business Ethics Alliance Hosts Successful Luncheon on Speaking Up and Listening

Business Ethics Alliance (www.businessethicsalliance.org) recently hosted a successful executive luncheon featuring speaker Katie Lawler, global chief ethics officer of US Bank, who presented in front of about 200 business professionals on how US Bank is creating a culture of psychological safety. She spoke on how important it is for employees to feel comfortable speaking up and for leaders to listen up and then to follow up escalating concerns appropriately. This three-pillar approach is the underpinning of US Bank’s culture of ethics and integrity.

Lawler advised leaders to host office hours so employees have time to stop by and talk. She also encouraged “bad news” round-robin-style meetings for employees to talk about what is not working and to show their opinions matter. US Bank is working to make all leaders and managers to be “ethical officers,” using their values to support doing the right thing. Being an ethical company is not a one-person job. It takes the whole company, and US Bank is at the forefront of business ethics.
