BLUEBARN Theatre Presents “I and You” Production
BLUEBARN Theatre is excited to present I and You by Lauren Gunderson. The production will run from January 31 through February 24, Thursday–Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, February 10 and 24 at 2 p.m.; and February 17 at 6 p.m.
The play, directed by Barry Carman, is about a boy named Anthony. One afternoon, he arrives unexpectedly at classmate Caroline’s door bearing a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, and an urgent assignment from their English teacher. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, they unlock a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. I and You is an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness.
After the February 14 and 21 (Thursdays) showings, attendees are invited to stay for a revealing conversation with the stars of I and You, Anna Jordan and Jordan Smith. The two will be ready and willing to answer any and all questions about the production. In addition, at 6 p.m. on February 10, BLUEBARN Theatre will host the Nebraska Writer’s Collective as they present young spoken word poets from their Louder Than a Bomb program, performing original work inspired by Walt Whitman. As an additional engagement opportunity, there will be a Whitman Exhibit, curated by UNL’s Whitman Archive, in BLUEBARN’s Mammel Lobby. Available throughout the duration of the production dates, the exhibit is designed for guests to peruse a display on the legacy of the late American poet and journalist, Walt Whitman.
After the performance on February 17, BLUEBARN will convene a forum of transplant donors, donor family members, recipients, and professionals in partnership with the UNMC Transplant Team and Nebraska Organ Recovery. Join them for a discussion of the powerful impact of organ donation and the misconceptions that may prevent some from becoming donors.
General admission for I and You at BLUEBARN Theatre (1106 S. 10th St.) is $35; $30 for seniors. Tickets are available at bluebarn.org. Educator, Military, and BLUCrew tickets are available through the box office, which can be reached at (402) 345-1576. Engagement events are free and open to the public.
