Audubon Nebraska Hosts Climate Watch Community Science Program Open to Public
Audubon Nebraska (ne.audubon.org) announced that their next Climate Watch community science program is scheduled for January 15-February 15, 2021, and it is open to everyone. You don’t have to be an expert birder, but knowing how to identify the target species by sight or sound is a big plus. The program entails counting and documenting where birds are today and how they’re responding to a shifting climate, information that is essential to helping protect them tomorrow.
Since 2016, Climate Watch volunteers have collected data which Audubon scientists are able to use to document in peer-reviewed research that birds are responding to climate change and shifting their ranges. That’s why, even in these pandemic times, they’ve arranged a way to continue the count safely. All coordinators and volunteers in Climate Watch must follow COVID safety regulations, including social distancing and carpooling only within existing family or social “pod” groups. Register to participate by visiting Audubon.org/conservation and typing “Climate Watch” into the search. Learn more about Audubon Nebraska at ne.audubon.org.
