SIDES (State Information Data Exchange System) is a free, paperless method of receiving and responding to requests for employee separation information from the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL). These requests are sent after an employee files an unemployment insurance claim. SIDES E-Response allows employers to receive email requests for separation information instead of paper forms, and to respond electronically simply by clicking a link in their email.
What are employers and third party administrators saying about SIDES?
“All employers at some point or another have to respond to an unemployment claim. The real beauty of it is now that the separation information requests come via email, so I can check my email and see that I have responses to complete and I can do that from my kitchen table, from my hotel room if I’m on the road, or from my office if I happen to be lucky enough to be in the office. Fortunately I have access to electronic employee files so I can attach documents that are pertinent to that separation and get them submitted quickly. But, if I find that I don’t have all of the information that I need, I can save it, I can stop, I can pause, I can check my records the next day or the day after that, and I can complete the claim without having to start all over again from the beginning or find the paper form I was working on two days ago.
The online form is actually a breeze to complete. It’s much easier than the paper form ever was. It has an orderly flow to it and you can move backwards and forwards while you’re in the form. It’s very quick and doesn’t take very long for each page to refresh so as you think of something that you want to add to your comments or a document that needs to be added to the claim, you can move backwards and forwards and save as you go along. It’s far easier than the manual system ever was–no more filling in the tiny little boxes.
Paper reporting of unemployment claims is inefficient; using the online system is efficient, it saves time, it saves money, and that is money that can be put to better purposes, whether you’re a non-profit and using that money to serve your clients or whether you’re a for profit and using that money to serve your shareholders.” – Laura Pavalis, Director of Human Resources Services for CFO Systems in Omaha, NE. Laura has more than 30 years of experience and works with small clients with several employees and large companies with over 1,200 employees.
