Branched Oak Observatory (theboo.org) is excited to announce its tenth annual StarBQ on September 28th from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Bring the family to enjoy an amazing out of this world experience. Branched Oak Observatory will host the 501st Legion, a Star Wars re-enactment group that will bring storm troopers and all the other bad guys. Be prepared for them to look for “missing droids” when parking. Come and see Mike the Meteorite, the interstellar traveler who brings a meteorite that can be held in one’s very own hands! It will truly be an out of this world experience!

Next, University of Nebraska–Lincoln physics students will have participants spinning with delight with hands-on experiences such as becoming a human gyroscope and more! Come early to safely view the sun through the amazing white light and Hydrogen Alpha telescopes to see sunspots and solar prominences. While the skies darken, participants can enjoy the Last Minute Band and food from the food vendors Chi-Style Kitchens and KONA Ice. Raffle tickets will also be available for items, including several SEEStarS50 telescopes. They are the latest in digital technology.

Then, the true gem of the night will reveal itself, the night sky. Participants will be able to look through an amazing array of telescopes, ranging from six to sixteen inches. There will also be an opportunity to see the brand new Miller Astrophotography Research Center, home to two Takahashi telescopes. Parents can cool off in the Kunkel Family Multipurpose Center, and kids can do make-and-take spacecrafts. There will be a $5 admission fee per person or $20 per family of four or larger.

Join Branched Oak Observatory in celebrating ten years of exploration and amazement! Visit their website for more details at theboo.org.
