In celebration of National Recovery Month, Prevention Means Progress (PMP) (preventionmeansprogress.org) is sponsoring the 12th annual Hands Across the Bridge for Recovery event on Saturday, September 14 at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge from 10 to 11 a.m.

PMP is an Omaha metro-wide coalition that aims to prevent substance misuse and addiction in collaboration with Choices Treatment Center, Heartland Family Service, Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, the Oxford House, Rebel Interactive, Santa Monica and Valley Hope. These organizations are asking the public to join 1,000 hands across the bridge in an effort to unite Omaha and Council Bluffs and demonstrate support for recovery from substance misuse and addiction. Participants can expect to enjoy music, coffee, cookies, swag, speakers and information about substance misuse issues. PMP wants to extend a special thanks to HyVee for sponsoring this event.

“We want to convey the important message to our community that prevention works, treatment is effective and people do recover,” said PMP Director Lorelle Mueting.

Recovery Month promotes the benefits of treatment for substance use and mental health disorders, celebrates those in recovery, appreciates friends and family who support those in recovery, applauds the contributions of prevention and treatment providers and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible.

PMP is committed to providing education and increasing awareness to help individuals and communities stay ahead of substance abuse, valuing everyone’s contribution to prevention, treatment and recovery. PMP’s vision is to empower people to take action against substance abuse. For more information about PMP, visit preventionmeansprogress.org.
