Patricia Kearns, President & CEO of Omaha’s QLI, recently participated in the Department of Defense’s (DOD) highly exclusive Joint Civilian Orientation Conference (JCOC), returning with a new appreciation for and understanding of military practices and functions.

Kearns was the only participant from Omaha and joined 37 other business leaders and politicians from across the country.

Established in 1948, the JCOC, which ran from April 22-27, is the DOD’s oldest outreach program and the only one sponsored by the Secretary of Defense. The trip originated in Washington, D.C., and focused on multi-state military installations throughout the United States.  The mission of the JCOC is to increase public understanding of national defense by enabling American business and community leaders to directly observe and engage with the U.S. military.

Formerly known as Quality Living Inc., QLI is a nonprofit based in Omaha that opened its doors to begin providing specialized rehabilitation services to individuals with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries or severe physical disabilities in 1990.
