For two decades, the Jennie Edmundson Foundation (www.jehfoundation.org) Spirit of Courage event has raised funds to support cancer patients at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hosptial. August 5 marks the date for the 2023 Spirit of Courage Celebrity Weekend Celebration held at the Mid-America Center. Each year, four individuals who join the foundation and share their remarkable stories of courage during their battle with cancer are celebrated and honored. This year, Rita Epperson, Brent Malskeit, Fran Shorey and Marlene Turner will be honored.
The Spirit of Courage weekend will kick off on Saturday, August 5, with a golf tournament at Dodge Riverside Golf Club at 8:00 a.m. A celebration gala will take place that evening at 6:00 p.m. Dinner and opening remarks will follow, starting at 7:00 p.m., followed by the introductions of the distinguished guests.
The net proceeds from the events go to the Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital – Spirit of Courage Cancer Charitable Patient Care Fund through the Jennie Edmundson Foundation. The funds raised are crucial in providing financial support towards helping cancer patients who face financial challenges and to help meet their needs as they progress through their treatments. Thanks are given to the generous support of donors, as this fund assists patients by paying for medications, treatments and deductibles as well as everyday living expenses such as groceries, rent and gas.
