The Omaha City Council (citycouncil.cityofomaha.org) has granted approval to two housing projects in downtown Omaha.
Flats on Howard, on the southeast corner of 24th and Howard St., will receive $3.2 million in tax increment financing. The $28 million building will be six stories and house 120 market-rate apartments. Plans also include 132 indoor parking stalls and a workout facility. The building was developed by Arch Icons and NuStyle Development.
The Millwork Commons area is expecting a new addition with The Dizzy Mule project. The project will receive $5 million in tax increment funding. The renovation and expansion will take place on an existing brick building and surrounding vacant lots on 13th and Izard St., and will cost $34.6 million. The apartment building will include 170 apartments throughout five stories, in addition to 18,000-square-feet of commercial space. Dizzy Mule is a couple blocks north of Charles Schwab Field and just east of the Hot Shops Art Center. The immediate area is also home to the Ashton Building, which has a number of popular retails and food-and-drink businesses as well as the recently opened Hello Apartments.
