Meet Matt Schartz, part owner of Anybody Supplements Omaha (anybodysupplements.com).
Tell us a little about your business. – Anybody Supplements Omaha is owned and operated by my wife Augusta and me. We are a small, family-owned business that specializes in nutrition and supplements. Our business is part of a three-store franchise. We opened in July of this year at Rockbrook Village in Omaha. Our goal and passion is to work with anyone and everyone to help them achieve the best and healthiest versions of themselves. We have some of the top-ranked supplements in the market to meet everyone’s individual needs.
How did you get started in the business? – I have been working in the fitness industry since I graduated from the University of Kearney in 2013. I have always been heavily involved in athletics and that carried over into becoming a cage fighter for seven years. Being in this line of athletics, my body took a beating nutritionally and physically, making learning how to recover quickly and effectively one of my main goals. I’ve always been fascinated by nutrition and working on how to become as healthy as possible, so much so that I am in the process of becoming a certified nutritionist.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The marketing side of the business—stepping out of my comfort zone and really making the most of Omaha’s growing market. We have a great product and the right driving factors behind our business, so learning how to present that in front of people is a transition for me. Coming from a background that is not marketing means I get to learn a whole new world and dynamic of presenting products and information to everyone differently.
Tell us a little about your family. – Augusta and I just celebrated our one-year anniversary this past July, and we have a son named Lawson Lee. My wife works for Milliman as a business development manager, and she is also in her eighth year as a softball coach at Millard West High School. Lawson is 19 months old and full of energy. He is becoming his own little independent person more and more every day. He spends everyday with me at the store and is the best helper I could ask for.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – When my son was born it made me look at my life and motivated me to better myself. I want to be a great role model to him. Having him is what started the conversation with my wife of opening a store—we wanted to spend more time together as a family and start something that would help build a future for him.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I like to spend quality time with my family or go golfing with some friends.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I am very passionate about the Special Olympics. I coached in the Special Olympics for four years while in college and then another three years when I was a special education teacher. I plan to continue to coach and be involved heavily in the community.
What is your favorite TV show? – We watch The Office almost every day at our house; my son loves to dance to the theme song.
