Meet Matthew Knipe, a trial attorney at Berry Law.
Tell us a little about your business.
I fight to uphold the Constitutional values that our great country is founded upon and that I swore an oath to uphold through my service in the United States Marine Corps. I’m proud to fight for veterans, people who are falsely accused of crimes, and people injured due to others’ wrongdoings.
How did you get started in the business?
I had a unique opportunity to clerk at a boutique law firm during law school, and I was hooked from day one. The work was challenging, exciting, and rewarding. I saw people walk into the office each day with a problem and no hope. All it took to restore their hope was a few minutes talking to someone that had “been there and done that” and could provide quality answers.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
Injustice that my clients face due to no fault of their own. I have clients that are falsely accused of crimes and their names are dragged through the mud. I see people whose lives, families, and careers are destroyed overnight. I have the challenge, and responsibility, to do everything in my power to correct that.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
Receiving a phone call from a fellow veteran, professional, or colleague with a request for help. It shows they trust me, my reputation, and the people I work with. They know they will be taken care of.
Tell us a little about your family.
I have been happily married for seven years and look forward to each day I get to spend with my wife and two children. My son is in kindergarten and my daughter is anxiously awaiting preschool. We have two dogs and a cat that are all spoiled with love.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
Enlisting in the United States Marine Corps taught me that there is only one goal regardless of what you are engaged in: winning. It may be difficult, inconvenient, and near impossible, but it will be accomplished. I apply this mentality in my legal practice. Another turning point was meeting my wife. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp how well she complements me. She levels me out in everything I do. She taught me to sympathize and to see things from a different perspective without sacrificing my own morals and values.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I enjoy golfing, biking, grilling, having friends over, landscaping, and watching my kids be kids. I also enjoy reading legal fiction and murder mysteries novels. My wife and I have been known to stay up late playing board games or doing a puzzle from time to time.
Who inspires you?
I look around and recognize success, but I also recognize failure. I know I can learn from anyone. I can identify what works well for one person and what is detrimental to another person. Then I can apply those lessons to my life.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Why wait until tomorrow to do what can be done today? Tomorrow has its own list of accomplishments awaiting!
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be?
Passionate.
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor.
What is your favorite movie?
Top Gun.
What is your favorite TV show?
