YMCA of Greater Omaha to Host Healthy Kids Day® Celebration
The YMCA of Greater Omaha’s (metroymca.org) Healthy Kids Day® celebration will be on Sunday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stinson Park in Aksarben Village. This is a free opportunity for families to celebrate health and encourage kids to learn healthy habits, engage in active play, and develop a lifetime love of physical activity. Goodie bags and helmets provided by the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center will be given away while supplies last. Registration is not required for this free event.
Healthy Kids Day® is the YMCA’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. In addition to providing swimming, gymnastics, and a place for kids to hang out, the YMCA also supports families who want to teach their kids about healthy habits and keep kids active.
The YMCA’s long history of promoting healthy opportunities for young people dates back to its founding on June 6, 1844 by George Williams, a sales assistant in London who became concerned by the unhealthy social conditions for city dwellers which arose during the Industrial Revolution.
After decades of development, modern centers offered by the YMCA provide opportunities for sports and aquatics, as well as programs for youth, families, and active older adults. Many health and fitness classes are free for members. You can follow events hosted by the YMCA of Greater Omaha by following their Facebook page (@metroymca) and learn more about membership online at metroymca.org.
