Report Names Omaha Among Top 15 Cities to Still Achieve the American Dream

Omaha was recently found to be one of America’s top 15 cities, with a low cost of living and high quality of life, according to a report published by BadCredit.org (www.badcredit.org/studies/15-cities-where-the-american-dream-is-still-attainable). The report noted that most residents work for one of Omaha’s 37,600+ businesses. Healthcare and social assistance is the largest industry, though the retail industry is also a major source of employment. Manufacturing and education services round out the city’s top four employment industries. The Omaha Public Schools district is the largest school distinct in Nebraska, and it oversees more than 75 primary and secondary schools.

A few other key findings about Omaha in the report included:

Cost of living 8% below the national average

$53,789 median household income

Average commute time of 18.7 minutes

BadCredit.org’s analysts started by researching Niche.com’s list of U.S. cities with the lowest cost of living and then looked at crime rates, commute times, employment, walkability, and other factors to determine its rankings.

“While the American Dream may feel far away to many Americans, our study shows it’s still possible to find a city with a great quality of life that doesn’t require a six-figure income. The 15 cities on our list maintain a low cost of living without sacrificing the necessities for a high quality of life, including offering affordable homes and a vibrant community,” commented Brittney Mayer, senior analyst and author of the report.
