After leaving the Nebraska Justice Department in Lincoln to begin her MBA program at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Traci Miller went to work for the NBDC PTAC program. The program provided her free tuition to complete her Master’s Degree and she has been extremely satisfied with her experience there.
The Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) offers free counseling services to businesses in Nebraska wishing to compete and win contracts with the government.
Tell us a little about your family.
I grew up on a small farm by Plainview, Nebraska. I have four brothers and a sister, and we are an extremely loud and boisterous group. I also have a Pomeranian named Emmitt, who considers himself a human and practically has a place set for him at the dinner table.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
I am currently at one of the biggest turning points of my life. I will be transitioning from the educational environment to the career field of my choosing.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
On a day off, I like to go for long runs outside on the trails. I also like to spend these days with my friends, enjoying what little free time we have.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I am working towards my pilot’s license. Flying is one of my favorite things to do, and I’m hoping to have this completed before 2013.
What are you the most proud of? – I am most proud of how far I’ve come both professionally and with my education in such a short period of time, and am confident this will only continue to grow in the future.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“If it was easy, everyone would do it.” My high school calculus teacher told me this some time ago, and it has always stayed with me.
What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
My greatest achievement would be to become an Officer in the U.S. Air Force and serve my country.
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Super Speed: I can never get anywhere quite as fast as I want or need to.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I consider myself a fairly decent singer. Fortunately, I have not had to use these skills at NBDC PTAC, yet…
Which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to speak a plethora of languages, rather than simply English and Spanish.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
Jane Eyre would have to be my favorite book. I enjoy classic English literature.
What is your favorite movie?
It’s a tie: either Fight Club or Top Gun
What is your favorite TV show?
The Office
What is your favorite local restaurant?
Spezia Italian Restaurant
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Brig. General Loretta Reynolds. In 2011 she was named the first female Marine to ever hold a command position in a battle zone. I’d love to discuss how she made it to the position she is in today, amidst adversity in a predominately male environment. I have strong aspirations to excel like this woman has, and learning her strategies for success would be an instrumental game changer in my life.
