Heart Walk Raises Over $550K for Lifesaving Mission

Led by 7-year-old Heart Child Talia and Perrigo Animal Health Pet Grand Marshall Penny, more than 5,000 people and animals walked in support of the American Heart Association’s (OmahaHeartWalk.com) lifesaving mission on May 7 at the 2016 Omaha-Council Bluffs Heart Walk presented by Physicians Mutual with media sponsor metroMAGAZINE. The event, presented for the second consecutive year by Physicians Mutual, has raised over $550,000 this year to date for the American Heart Association, an organization that invested nearly $2.4 million in 14 new and continuing studies last year in Nebraska.

Among the top fundraisers for the Heart Walk were Nebraska Medicine and UNMC, raising $94,000 to date and claiming the titles of Top Fundraising Company, edging out Union Pacific, and the Top Fundraising Health System. The American Heart Association Metropolitan Omaha Chairman of the Board of Directors Cameron Scott of Union Pacific was named Top Individual Fundraiser with $28,000 and Callum’s Crusaders – the team of last year’s Heart Child Callum Pieters – was named the Top Community Team with $1,700 raised. The event, sponsored nationally by Subway, also received support from Burlington Capital Group, CHI Health, Creighton University, Gavilon, Nebraska Methodist College, Oriental Trading Company, Purina, Sheppard’s Business Interiors, Valmont, Walgreens and Woodmen Life.
