On February 9th, Omaha athlete and fitness professional Bill Esch broke the American record in the kettlebell long cycle at the OKC California Open in Costa Mesa, CA. Kettlebells were developed in Russia in the 1700’s for the physical training and conditioning of the Soviet army. Unlike Olympic lifting which is performed for one repetition of the highest weight possible, kettlebell lifting involves lifting continuously for sets and athletes aim at the highest number of repetitions in a specified period of time.
