On Valentine’s Day, we don’t just shower the humans we love with tokens of our affection— we also get to celebrate it with the furry friends that we adore! Many offices and businesses share in the fun of Valentine’s Day with festive outfits, sweets, cute gifts or valentines, but some of these items can be toxic to pets who are also present in the work environment.

• Chocolate is a big no-no for dogs, and while one M&M isn’t fatal, it’s important to keep all of the candy, cookies, cupcakes, cake…well, all of the usual Valentine’s Day suspects…out of reach.

• Sugar-free candies and gums are also particularly bad news as they often contain large amounts of xylitol, a sweetener that’s toxic to pets.

• If your dog or cat does manage to sneak any of these treats, it may go into cardiac arrest. Take your pet to the veterinarian immediately, and in an absolute emergency, you can attempt CPR similar to the techniques you’d apply with a person.

• Roses, a romantic classic and by far the most popular floral arrangement for Valentine’s Day delivered to workplaces everywhere, are also toxic to pets. The aroma is enticing, and it only takes one small nibble to cause a reaction.

• Lillies are also a flower to be extremely careful with because they are fatally poisonous to cats.

If you have a pet that greets you warmly every day and shares cuddles when you are stressed or playtime when you need a breath of fresh air, your at-work companion definitely deserves a special treat too! With that in mind, consider picking up some pet-friendly Valentine’s Day goodies. The world’s first bakery for dogs, Three Dog Bakery is well-known for its creativity and gourmet treats that are made with love. From the premium, all-natural ingredients to the custom decoration for special events such as holidays and birthdays, it’s just too cute to pass up…and too delicious to deny your furry friend!

Valentine’s Day is a tribute to the people and pets in our lives that make our hearts melt, and there’s no better time for a cuteness overload! If you share your workplace with a companion of the furry variety, don’t leave them out – toys, treats, it’s the thought that counts, right?!
