Meet Sadie, the loveable golden retriever that spends her days running the The Potting Shed with her owner Amy Weir!  Since leaving her naughty puppy ways behind to join the family business several years ago, Sadie has become quite well-known among the store’s customers and in the neighborhood.  The Potting Shed is close to Walnut Grove Park, so there are always a lot of people walking their dogs in the area who stop by to say hello and Sadie, who is outgoing and friendly by nature, welcomes them all!

She takes her job as the store’s greeter and overseer of day-to-day activities at The Potting Shed very seriously—when the bell rings signaling the front door opening, she’s on it!   Although she is very polite and says hello with a few soft growls, one thing she won’t do is share her ball with guests.  It’s a good thing she leaves plenty of other toys lying around the store for everyone else, as customers are welcome to bring their dogs into the store anytime so there’s always the potential for some playtime!  There is one exception, however.  Among her favorite human visitors is Tom, the UPS guy—when the big brown truck rolls up she knows she will get attention, and she happily turns the ball over for him to throw!

Aside from greeting guests, you can find Sadie napping in the back room or playing in the garden.  Occasionally one of the employees at The Potting Shed will bring her dog in to work, a cute little maltipoo named Daisy, and the two are inseparable during their time together.  In honor of her favorite place to play with friends, twice a year on a Sunday afternoon in April and October The Potting Shed hosts Paws in the Garden and Sadie is the honorary “Garden Greeter.”  This event gathers together local rescue groups and plenty of creative dog-related vendors with local pet owners and pet lovers and is always a great time for all in attendance.

Sadie just turned four on January 24th and as a staple of the store since she was two, this year she even had a special birthday celebration at The Potting Shed.  Joined by all of her furry and human friends that she has met during her time spent at the store, everyone enjoyed treats and played in the display garden area on the property.  This was a much better reason than the last time she had that many guests, who were visiting to pass on “Get Well Soon” wishes and care packages after she had an accident and ended up with six stitches on the top of her foot.  But either way, Sadie is well-loved by so many and she sure knows it!
