River City Six: Travis Lerdahl

Natural Night-Scapes (www.naturalnightscapes.com) provides clients in the Omaha Metro, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, and surrounding areas with custom lighting designs that bring security, ambiance, and a new perspective to residential and commercial properties. With a passion and appreciation for the outdoors that guides the artistry of light, Natural Night-Scapes specializes in creating a complete nighttime living experience. In meeting the primary objective of “illuminating your ideas,” every beautiful outdoor lighting project starts with a design that takes into account the client’s style, vision, characteristics of the property, and any special requests.

The company is locally owned and operated by Travis Lerdahl, who also serves as Chief Designer. Also well known as the owner of Priority Turf & Irrigation, Lerdahl formed this new sister company based on the demand for custom landscape and architecture lighting, which has traditionally been an area of focus for the business that has expanded in recent years.

Tell us a little about your business. – Natural Night-Scapes is dedicated to the art of landscape and outdoor lighting.  With our biggest focus being a client-interactive design, their thoughts, ideas, and landscape become our platform for inspiration.  Coupling that design with a quality product and proper installation leads to the lighting system you’ve always wanted!

How did you get started in the business? – Starting my lawn sprinkler company 9 years ago has led us into a few different areas of the green industry.  Landscape lighting has gone from a favorite to a passion in no time!

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Every year there are important achievements, but the ones that stick out are the comments from our past clients. They love to let us know how much more time they spend outdoors now since the project was installed.  Which coming from an outdoors lover, there is no bigger compliment.

Tell us a little about your family. – I’m currently still in the newlywed stage with my beautiful Becca; we will celebrate our one year anniversary in August!  Our lives however would not be complete without our pillow-shredding yellow lab, Kai.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Day off? Those exist? Depending on the weather, one can usually catch us at the lake, golfing, or hiking at one of the many state parks.

What are you the most proud of? – I certainly feel my family, friends, and neighbors are second to none!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Take an Uber!

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I’m a big fan of Bubba Watson and Jaromir Jagr, so being them when I grow up would be ideal.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Alzheimer’s Association, HETRA, and OMAHA Youth Hockey.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Just finished The One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson; now I’m on to The 4-hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss.

What is your favorite movie? – Who doesn’t love The Shawshank Redemption!

What is your favorite TV show? – Workaholics and That 70’s Show are always good for a lot of laughs.
