River City Six: Stephanie Boyes

Stephanie Boyes is now Vice President of Mortgage Lending with Guaranteed Rate (www.guaranteedrate.com/stephanieboyes).  As a licensed Sr. Loan Officer in Nebraska (NMLS #843037), Stephanie has extensive knowledge and expertise in the mortgage industry and can assist with a wide range of home loan needs, including first-time purchase, refinancing, conventional, jumbo, FHA and VA, 203(k) renovation, and more. With 11 years of experience in the mortgage industry, half of which were focused on the operations side of the business, she is able to properly take a loan from start to finish.

How did you get started in the business? – I always wanted to be an attorney growing up.  I really enjoyed the aspect of winning debates (just ask my husband) and finding ways to fight for others.  In 2001, I worked for a small bank in Denver, CO and had my first taste of the mortgage industry.  I find there is a huge correlation between the legal and mortgage industry, even if it is unrecognized.  I really have a passion for helping people achieve homeownership and having proper representation on a mortgage is just as important as having the right legal representation in court.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I was working in San Antonio and doing very well in the mortgage industry.  I had several builder sales representatives who became my friends and one of them was murdered by a client of ours.  It really hit home for me and reminded me of the importance of family.  I tend to be a workaholic so sometimes those moments remind you that it is good to have balance in life.

Tell us a little about your family. – My husband, Tony, and I got married in 2011 and we have a 3-year-old son named Brayden who I exploit quite frequently in my advertising (hopefully he doesn’t grow up and find a high powered attorney to sue me!).  They are both such a blessing to me and I am thankful every day for having them in my life.  I also have two wonderful stepchildren, Katelyn who is 13 years old and Ethan who is 11.

What are you the most proud of? – I am the most proud of my work ethic.  My mom was a single parent raising three kids so I certainly was not handed anything in life.  I am truly thankful that the values I was taught as a child included making your own successes and not relying on others to do it for you.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Well, anyone who knows me probably already knows this, but I am a huge San Antonio Spurs fan.  I became a fan in 2003 and have admired their leadership and teamwork for many years.  And by fan, I mean super-fan.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Pertinacious!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I have always wanted Wonder Woman’s truth lasso. Though it might not be the best idea to always know what others are thinking…

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Hands down, Gregg Popovich or Tim Duncan.  More than likely it would be Greg Poppovich because he is such an amazing coach and leader.  It would be an honor to be able to pick his brain (that is if he gave me more than one-word answers).
