Comfort Keepers is an in-home care agency that provides services for as little as one hour a day up to 24-hour care. Jennifer Dil is the Business Development Consultant for Comfort Keepers Omaha.

Tell us a little about your business. – Comfort Keepers is the premier provider of companionship and home care services in the nation, yet we still reflect the local vibe. We help those who need some type of home assistance due to illness, injury, disease or just a slower lifestyle due to the aging process. We are supportive, we are nice, and we are there when safety might be an issue. Hey, we can even drive you to your appointments and make you a good meal!

How did you get started in the business? – A military transfer took my husband to Virginia. While there, for a sales position, I had to decide between Geico, Intuit (who both had large corporate offices near me) and 5 Star Senior Living (which I eventually chose). I was intrigued with the whole spectrum of senior services, and as it turned out, the position fulfilled my driving sales nature but also the social worker in me. It is a highly competitive market to work in, yet I got to hug people and care for them every day. Amazing!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – My biggest challenge in senior services is putting a smile on my face when I know that one of my clients just died. There must be a special place in heaven for hospice workers who face this daily. It’s tough.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – What is this ‘day off’ you are asking about? I am always thinking about work. I reach in my bag while we are at the grocery store to hand my business card to the person who is shopping while driving the automated cart. That person still has to get those groceries in the car, in the house and put away. I can help with that! To answer the question though, my favorite thing is to be able to cross something off of one my myriad of lists and feel I slacked off a bit, too. If relaxing that day is pulling weeds in the garden, I do that. If it is gaming for a few hours, I do that. If it is hosting a big party at home, I do that.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I am a wannabe homesteader. I do intensive gardening, canning, dehydrating, and have learned to make my own soaps. Being new-ish to Nebraska I need to figure out what grows well here. I have never eaten a pawpaw but I hear they grow well in this area. I need to find one to see if I like it and want to grow a tree or two.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I would like to be part of the work on human genomes and coding DNA. How fabulous to discover the genes that might close the door to Alzheimer’s or ALS. I would love to be cure my arthritis.
