United Way of the Midlands (UWM) Interim President Shawna Forsberg recently announced the appointment of Joanna Murray as Senior Vice President of Community Impact. The Omaha native recently served as President and CEO of The Leadership Investment in Denver, where she crafted a five-year strategic plan and positioned the organization in the forefront of women’s leadership development in the Mountain Region.

She served as a founding partner of Ki ThoughtBridge, a national consulting firm that specializes in an integrated approach to the transformation of individual, organizational, and community systems. She was also Vice President for Trustee Leadership Development, a company focused on creating non-profit excellence through board and executive leadership training. Joanna was the founding Executive Director of the Metro Denver Chamber Leadership Foundation, where she led hallmark programs such as Leadership Denver.

Murray holds a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Organizational Development, and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Sociology, both from Iowa State University.

Murray oversees UWM’s community impact work, which aims to identify, support and improve local human service efforts, collaborate with nonprofit, public and private efforts to address basic needs, and help local residents find a pathway out of poverty.
