How did you get started in the business? – I started roofing in 1983 when I was on summer break from high school. I noticed an apartment complex was being built within walking distance from my home (so did my mother, who wanted me to get out of the house more often!). One day while I was out and about I saw these guys loading concrete tiles on the roof, three stories in the air. It looked fun and dangerous, so I naturally asked if they needed help. I was hired on the spot, and the rest is history.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I would have to say keeping up with all of the never ending and always changing government regulations.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Starting at the bottom and working my way up the ladder, never giving up, and always remembering where I came from.
Tell us a little about your family. – I come from a large family. I have two sisters and an identical twin brother. Currently, I am a single full-time father of the most adorable 2 ½ year old girl this side of the pond. When I am not working for a living, my daughter and I are playing and exploring Nebraska!
What do you see as the biggest turning point in your life? – That would be the day that I welcomed my beautiful daughter into this world. It’s hard to explain, but in that moment when she made her first noise (which sounded like a screaming cat) everything changed.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – The Henry Doorly Zoo is amazing and I love to take my daughter there as often as possible.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – That I have an identical twin brother. We are complete mirror opposites on just about everything, but we could certainly exchange vital organs if that ever becomes necessary.
What are you the most proud of? – The fact that I am raising my daughter as a single parent. However, I am very thankful that I also get a lot of help from my daughter’s godmother Isabelle Kessler.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Always do the right thing, even if it is the most difficult thing to do.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Cheerful!
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – That song has yet to be written, but I believe it would be composed by Parliament-Funkadelic.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Stand-up Comedian.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Arthur’s Boo-Boo Book by Marc Brown. It comes with stickers for first aid fun and my daughter loves it!
What is your favorite movie? – The Outsiders
What is your favorite TV show? – NETV’s Nature
What is your favorite restaurant? – Lo Sole Mio
