Mark Kottke-National Account Systems

0

After college, Mark Kottke worked as a bill collector for a few years and became hooked on the all day long problem solving that was required.  Mark moved onto management and ended up working as an executive for three of the largest agencies in the countries before starting his own.  National Account Systems is currently re-branding itself after being in business for 20 years as two separate companies and works for local businesses large and small, helping them recover their past due account receivables.

Tell me a little about your family.
I have happily been married to my wife Toni for almost 16 years. We have two daughters – Delilah (5), and a Delaney (11), they both adore our small Yorkie (Lulu). My wife has a son in Minneapolis (Mitch) and he is happily married and has a new family of his own. All of our relatives live in Minnesota.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
I think moving to Omaha was a big deal. Ten years ago, our child was young and we were in our 30s. I was recruited to come down here and run a business so I left a job I had for 10 years. We left our entire families behind in Minnesota, and we all became a closer family here because of it.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I am a sports card collector, I buy and sell a lot of cards….too many!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I have bowled a 300 (perfect game) and have made a hole in one golfing.

What are you the most proud of?
We are teaching our clients about their business. It’s a different approach, we are very hands-on and want them to see at firsthand what we do every day. It’s hard to get to everyone, but we are doing it one client at a time creating new relationships.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Learn as many things as you can on the job, and get out of your comfort zone. Ride out the bad times more than the good ones. You will learn more.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
Enjoy what I do every day, all the time. I love what I do and also the people I choose to work with everyday. You can’t ask for more than that.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Aqua-man: swim forever without breathing.

What are your plans after retirement?
Follow my favorite sports teams around and see the games with my family and friends.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I played noseguard in college – I cant tackle anybody at work…

Which talent would you most like to have?
Ice Skating… I can’t skate at all.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
Warren Buffett – The Snowball. I mostly read a lot of magazines, about 15 each month.

What is your favorite movie?
Karate Kid

What is your favorite TV show?
