Lance Freeman remembers going to the salon with his mother as a child and loving the energy and creative environment there. After high school, he spent some time modeling and the hair and make-up teams were always the most fun and creative people on set and Lance knew he wanted to be a part of it. This desire led him to Urbane Salon and Day Spa, the only Aveda Concept Salon located in Omaha’s Old Market. As soon as he and his business partner Jean Fostvedt walked in the doors of the location, they knew instantly it was the beginning of something special. Urbane is the luxury/destination salon and spa for all of your hair, skin, nails and massage needs. Each service is customized to meet your specific needs and includes Aveda’s signature rituals such as a stress relieving scalp and neck or hand massage with each service.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
Even though like I mentioned it was love at first site, we realized quickly as all new business owners do that there are always quite a few twists and turns along the way. However, hard work and consistency truly pay off, and once it does, it’s such a rewarding feeling. Also, for me personally, being a hair stylist by trade meant needing to learn all I could about the spa/esthetics industry. It’s been very rewarding.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
Urbane Salon and Day Spa. I get such satisfaction from being a successful and profitable business in these unstable times. Of course you have to work at it each and every day. It’s proof to everyone that’s ever said a hair stylist can’t run a successful business!
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
Realizing that you NEED your clients, they do not NEED you! Every time someone is in the salon/spa, we have an opportunity to changes someone’s life.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Working on our 100yr old home. I love the continuous process of restoring it to its original beauty.
What are you the most proud of?
The team at Urbane Salon and Day Spa. Much like the design of the salon, the team itself is very eclectic. Each person is a professional in what they do, and when it all comes together it’s amazing to see!
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
To read someone’s mind. It makes me anxious when I can’t determine someone’s true intentions :)
What are your plans for retirement?
A little place in the Caribbean with ocean views, white sand and a lounge chair :)
Which talent would you most like to have?
Singing! I can’t carry a tune to save my life.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Oprah, whether you love her or hate her, there’s no denying how powerful and successful she is!
