Ricer City Six – Dillon Crawford

Meet Dillon Crawford, art director at Strictly Business (strictlybusinessomaha.com).

How did you get started in the business?

Growing up, I was fascinated by movie posters and movie artwork. I wanted to work in the industry but never knew how to break in. Basically, I was just a talented doodler with dreams of being an artist for movie and band posters. I decided to go to SCC and do their Graphic Design and Media Arts program. Two years later, I had learned everything I needed to know to get into an industry that I love and am constantly challenged by.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

Web design was by far the most challenging aspect of graphic design that I had to learn. I still avoid coding as much as possible, but I do love and appreciate web design as it is a new and evolving art form in the design world.

Tell us a little about your family.

I have a gorgeous fiancé whom I live with. We have been together for over 10 years! Together we have our giant puppy son Goose! He is a one-year-old, 120-pound Saint Bernard—120 pounds of pure love and fur. The three of us make quite the little family.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

I tend to be a real homebody. I like to pull out the smoker and invite some great people over for a nice rack of ribs and a few drinks. During the summer months, you can find me struggling on the golf course. During the winter, I like to snuggle up to a new movie or play video games online with my friends.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?

I can eat a buffalo wing in one fell swoop…I should have tried competitive eating!

Who inspires you?

My fiancé Megan. She is a ray of positive energy and always working. We complement each other well like that. She owns a dance studio along with working another job so she is constantly on the move. She inspires me to work hard every single day. I am so thankful for her in that sense. Work hard every day, and never take for granted what you have at home waiting for you afterwards.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be?

Honest.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

The ability to clone myself. Who wouldn’t want more Dillons in the world?

Which talent would you most like to have?

I have always wished that I could learn to play an instrument, I love music and would have loved to have been a musician in another life.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be?

NFL announcer. I’m a huge football fan and would love to talk about the sport that I know entirely too much about.

What is your favorite movie?

The Shining, Jaws, Saving Private Ryan, Seven Samurai, The Lighthouse, Bladerunner, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and, of course, The Room. (I love movies too much to narrow it down, seems unfair.)

What is your favorite TV show?

30 Rock or Community.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

Blue Sushi Sake Grill.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?

Stanley Kubrick. The dude is the best filmmaker of all time, in my opinion.
