Stork Vision Omaha is the only free standing prenatal imaging center in the Omaha area, offering elective 2D and 3D/4D live ultrasounds in the comfort of a home theater-like setting for a one of a kind experience.  Cathy Fraser, RDMS, BA is the owner of Stork Vision Omaha.

Tell us a little about your business. – We focus on the bonding experience ultrasound can provide for expectant parents, siblings, and family members. We allow our clients a rare glimpse into baby’s world; facial expressions, movements, and characteristics unique to baby can all be discovered before baby is even born. We also provide gender determinations as early as 16 weeks, which is always exciting for parents who want to start shopping as soon as possible! We welcome the entire family and even offer a “Big Brother/Big Sister” gift from our prize bucket as well as toys for the little ones who may have shorter attention spans! All of our Sonographers are ARDMS certified and work in local OB offices. We also have a High-Risk OB/GYN who serves as our Medical Director.

How did you get started in the business? – Sonography is a second career for me; my initial degree is in Psychology. After experiencing the wonder of ultrasound during my own pregnancies, I made the decision to pursue a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography at BryanLGH in Lincoln, NE after staying home with my children for several years. I am very happy with my decision–I love what I do!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Going back to school as a non-traditional student and mother of two was definitely challenging! As is being a small business owner! But the challenges are definitely worth it.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Last year I went on a 15 day medical outreach trip to Kenya, Africa to help teach local physicians and midwives how to utilize ultrasound in their medical practices. Our group included two OB/GYNs, a plastic surgeon, a general surgeon, three OR nurses, another sonographer, and myself; all from Omaha. It was an amazing experience. We are planning a return trip this spring.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have two amazing children: Zarah and Zane, ages 10 and 9.  They are my pride and joy.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Having the courage to become a small business owner.  I worked at Stork Vision prior to taking over the business.  There wasn’t a shred of doubt in my mind that I wanted to make the transition, however it was definitely a change going from “employee” to “boss”!  It is very helpful knowing both sides of the fence; I can make decisions that help both the business and the employees.

What are you the most proud of? – Being able to provide an experience that brings so much joy to peoples’ lives. I have worked in hospitals and clinics in the past, which was great, however being able to focus my full attention on the parents and family members and to allow them a rare glimpse of their unborn child is such an honor.
