Jeff Ockinga – Complete Comfort


When he was a teenager, Jeff was fortunate enough to get involved with a company whose owner recognized his potential and took the time to help him develop his technical skills.  This led him to owning Complete Comfort, a full service heating and cooling contracting firm that works with businesses and home owners to solve problems and reduce energy usage by implementing energy efficient technology such as geothermal heat pumps.  Complete Comfort  services most brands of existing equipment (including warranty work), performs annual maintenance and installs new equipment as well as being indoor air quality specialists.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Transitioning from technician to manager.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Becoming the “Geothermal Guy” for the local market

Tell us a little about your family. – I am one of three kids who picked up our father’s work ethic.  The man has not missed a day of work in 40 years.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Discovering public service.  Six years ago I joined I80 Cosmopolitan Club, which is a club that raises money for diabetes related charities.  I have met some of the best people in the world through the club.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy old cars, sporting events and hanging out with friends.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am a jokester.  My customers and employees only get to see my serious side.

What are you the most proud of? – Running a successful, ethical business.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Don’t worry about the things you can’t control.  I don’t do a good job of following it but it is good advice.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish? – I would like to help develop technology to help reduce our energy footprint.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – X-ray vision.  Being able to see the details inside the walls of a home would help me to determine the energy efficiency of the structure.

What are your plans for retirement? – What’s that?

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I am a really good cook.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I wish I had some rhythm, I can’t sing or dance or even keep the beat.
