David Mangelsen first began working at Mangelsen’s (started by his grandparents) when he was seven years old, pricing what seemed to be endless boxes of candy (and taste testing a few, of course). Over the years, he spent his summers helping in the departments with product pricing and enjoyed growing up in the business as a third generation Mangelsen. Mangelsen’s is now operated by the second generation (David’s dad) and the third generation (David and his sister Marla and brother Matt). Mangelsen’s, started in 1961 by Harold and Berniece Mangelsen, is a 38,000 square foot variety store that houses crafts, fabrics, framing, floral, candles, art supplies, Christmas traditions, gourmet foods, party goods, a year round masquerade shop and The Farmhouse Café, a full-service restaurant and bakery.
