Drew Davies, founder and design director of Omaha’s Oxide Design Co., was invited to testify before the Presidential Commission on Election Administration (PCEA) at their public advisory meetings on September 19-20.  The PCEA was formed to identify best practices and make recommendations to the President on election efficiency and voter experience. These public advisory meetings will allow the PCEA to collect data relevant to ballot design, voting accessibility and other issues outlined in Executive Order 13639. Davies and Oxide have worked extensively on ballot design and usability. Since 2006 they have worked in conjunction with the Design for Democracy initiative of AIGA, the nation’s largest professional association for design. Davies currently serves as the initiative’s national design director, as well as AIGA’s national co-president.  In their endeavors with AIGA Design for Democracy, Davies and Oxide have developed a new prototype ballot for the State of Nebraska and voter registration forms for the State of New York. Most recently, Oxide designed the Anywhere Ballot in partnership with CivicDesigning.org and the University of Baltimore.  The Anywhere Ballot project’s ultimate goal is to allow every citizen to vote on any device, anywhere, at any time.  More information on Oxide Design Co. is available at oxidedesign.com, and on the PCEA at http://www.supportthevoter.gov/.
