LaVonya Goodwin (lavonyagoodwin.com), an Omaha native and dedicated community leader, has announced her intention to file and run for Omaha City Council District 2 in the spring 2025 election. With a strong track record of advocating for economic growth and community development, Goodwin aims to bring a fresh perspective and productive leadership to the constituents of District 2.
Goodwin is instrumental in driving transformative change in one of Omaha’s most historic neighborhoods in her current role as the Executive Director for the North 24th Street Business Improvement District Association. Since 2020, she has successfully secured $15 million in local and federal funding for the North 24th Street Streetscape Master Plan and façade improvements for businesses within the District.
“This year, Forbes listed Omaha as the number one city to live in in the nation. Now is the time for North Omaha to catch up to that positive momentum.” said Goodwin. “My experience in community development and my passion for serving Omaha uniquely position me to be a voice and advocate for our neighborhoods and businesses.”
Goodwin’s platform will focus on fostering equitable economic development, improving infrastructure, enhancing public safety and safe, affordable housing—ensuring all residents of District 2 have access to the resources they need to thrive. As a lifelong resident of Omaha, she brings an intimate understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the district.
Goodwin will officially file her candidacy in early 2025 and plans to engage directly with community members through listening sessions in the coming months.
