Vision Maker Media (VMM)(visionmakermedia.org) is celebrating Native American and Alaska Native Heritage Month. For 49 years, Vision Maker Media has been educating audiences with films by and about Native Americans from PBS television broadcasting to in-person screenings to digital streams. As technology changes, so does Vision Maker  Media, and the collection of films will continue to reach audiences everywhere. Vision Maker Media is your premier source for Native media, delivering 72% of Native American stories, or 412 community stories out of 574 Tribal Nations. VMM provides resources, tools, and practices for generations of Native American and Alaska Native storytellers to succeed and convey their stories to you.

The Native American Film Series at The Ross Theater will feature “Growing Native Alaska: People of the North” on November 10. The film highlights efforts to reclaim traditional Indigenous knowledge and foodways in response to pressing issues of health, wellness, and the environment. It is a story of resiliency, showing how communities adapt as the natural resources that sustained families and cultures for centuries come under threat. Free tickets available at theross.org.

The “iNative Shorts for Kids” series, available on VMM’s YouTube channel, features short, curated videos from VMM’s extensive film archive. November’s theme is Native American sports. Episodes will spotlight the significance of three sports in Native American cultures: cross country, lacrosse, and dog sledding.
