United Way of the Midlands has launched a nationwide search for its next president and chief executive officer. The Omaha-based position will implement the organization’s strategic initiatives in the areas of basic needs, workforce readiness and classroom readiness as we continue to help strengthen our local community. Leading the search is James Abruzzo, head of the Nonprofit Practice at DHR International, a global executive search firm.
Following the unexpected July 2014 passing of Karen Bricklemyer, who served three years as United Way of the Midlands president and CEO, two of the organization’s senior leaders have taken on interim responsibilities: Shawna Forsberg, senior vice president of marketing, is acting as interim president, and Pam Schwalb, senior vice president of finance and operations, is acting as interim chief operating officer.
The search is focusing on candidates who are knowledgeable and articulate at the local and national level in the issues confronting human services, education, and workforce development with a track record of strong, tangible service to their communities. Other requirements include experience leading fundraising, marketing, and financial management, as well as staff leadership, team building, and working with volunteers.
Anyone interested in obtaining more information, nominating a potential candidate, or submitting an application should email Michele Counter at mcounter@dhrinternational.com. United Way of the Midlands hopes to name a new president and CEO in the second quarter of 2015. For more information on United Way of the Midlands please visit www.UnitedWayMidlands.org.
