The Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce was honored as a recipient of the NCE Outstanding Business & Industry Partner award on June 3rd at the Nebraska Career Education Conference in Kearney, NE.
The Sarpy Chamber partners with the Cooperation BEST Business Partnership program in the Papillion La Vista Schools. Lois Erickson, partnership facilitator, stated “As a new business explores opening in the Papillion-La Vista School District community, Chamber President Karen Gibler shares with them opportunities to get involved in the school district. These opportunities equal more business but just as important is how they can be involved in helping to educate our students. Through internships, externships, job shadowing, jobs, speaking and touring opportunities the businesses that join the chamber become connected to our students. Chamber ribbon cuttings are often partnered with the superintendent or one of our assistant superintendents behind the ribbon, kicking off the Cooperation BEST partnership too. Since the partnership with the Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce was kicked off 8 years ago, Cooperation BEST has added an additional 103 business partners, doubling the size of the BEST program. Many of these partners were connected to the school district by the chamber. 103 more partners equal many more opportunities for our students to be exposed to a large variety of career paths.”
