The Sarpy Chamber of Commerce (sarpychamber.org), in partnership with Hy-Vee and the Offutt Advisory Council (OAC), has launched an emergency Military Shutdown Food Drive to provide essential supplies to military families facing immediate financial hardship due to the ongoing government shutdown. The community is invited to donate non-perishable food items, diapers and toiletries to support families serving at Offutt Air Force Base. Donations will be accepted at two key locations:

  • Sarpy Chamber of Commerce, 1243 Golden Gate Dr., Papillion: Drop-offs are open and continue through November 3, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Hy-Vee Stores in Papillion and Plattsmouth: Special collection days were held October 24-26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Donations of all basic non-perishable food items and toiletries are needed. This includes canned goods, pasta, cereal, dried staples, soap, shampoo and feminine hygiene products. All collected items will be distributed directly to local military families, ensuring those serving at Offutt Air Force Base are supported.

“As both a member of the OAC and a Sarpy community resident, I see the immediate need and the incredible value of this collective action,” said Karen Gibler, president and C.A.O. of the Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce. “This effort provides a vital safety net, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring our military families have access to the necessities they need while navigating this current shutdown.”
