Santa Monica (www.santamonicahouse.org), in partnership with Heartland Family Service Prevention Means Progress, will celebrate National Recovery Month with the Hands Across the Bridge event on September 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. The event will take place on the Iowa side of the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge landing.

The event will begin with a brief testimonial highlighting that recovery is possible for everyone. Participants will then join hands across the bridge in a symbolic gesture, with the goal of spanning the entire bridge.

Founded in 1972, Santa Monica has partnered with more than 3,000 women on their journey to recovery from addiction and alcoholism. The organization focuses on reuniting families, reintegrating productive women into the community and providing comprehensive support services. Santa Monica offers an Intermediate Residential program, a Halfway House program with step-down care to a three-quarter way house and a 10-unit apartment building for women and children.

Hands Across the Bridge is part of Santa Monica’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about recovery, reduce stigma around addiction and celebrate the progress of individuals in recovery.
