Open Door Mission recently hosted its annual Back to School Bash on August 29th at the Timberlake Outreach Center, located at 2107 East Locust Street. With school back in session in the Heartland, many low income families and individuals struggle to ensure that their kids are well prepared while also continuing to support the household expenses as usual. This year over 1,000 members of our community who were in need received free household items to supplement their income and prevent homelessness.

“It is never a good time to struggle, experience hunger or lack of basic needs,” says Candace Gregory, President / CEO. “Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the community Open Door Mission was able to provide food pantries, diapers and other essential needs to help stretch their dollars and remain in their own homes. Many are just one paycheck away from being homeless themselves. Thankfully we are in a position to help.”

Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission that provides 816 men, women, and children with safe shelter beds, serves more than 2,000 hot nutritious meals, and provides preventive measures to more than 275 families living in poverty. Open Door Mission offers life-changing programs for those recovering from life-altering addictions and abuse to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
