OAHU 2015 Public Service Projects Benefit Local Non-Profits

The Omaha Association of Health Underwriters (OAHU) participated in four Public Service Projects in 2015, and gave over $5,000 combined to these charities.

This past spring, OAHU recognized Project Harmony at the annual Awards Luncheon. Project Harmony was the 2015 recipient of OAHU’s “Service to Mankind” Award. Project Harmony’s goal is to protect the child, to prosecute the offender, and to break the cycle of child abuse. OAHU presented the organization with a $1,200 check.

During its annual golf tournament in June, OAHU members, along with members from NAIFA-Omaha and the Independent Insurance Agents of Omaha, were able to donate $2,445 to the Food Bank for the Heartland. Food Bank for the Heartland is then able to distribute approximately three meals for every $1 donated.

The fall project for OAHU was for Wigs for Kids. $375 was raised to “help children look themselves and help them live their lives,” as their mission states. Wigs for Kids helps 125-150 children annually, with the cost of one wig estimated at $1,800.

The final fundraiser for OAHU in 2015 was for Wounded Warriors Family Support. At a continuing education event in November over $1,200 was raised for this local charity.
