More than 350 JAG Nebraska (UWMidlands.org) students representing 51 school districts across Nebraska gathered for the JAG Nebraska Career Development Conference (CDC), presented by Cox Communications. This annual event provided students with the opportunity to demonstrate and celebrate what they have learned in JAG classrooms across the state. The CDC is designed to help students build a strong foundation of personal leadership and employability skills to be better prepared for careers, higher education and advancement opportunities outside of the classroom.
Student attendees had the opportunity to interact with a number of potential employers, and they will participate in various activities such as prepared speaking, employability skills, financial literacy and project-based learning. The students’ accomplishments and achievements will also be recognized during an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the event.
Founded in January 2019 as part of the national Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program, JAG Nebraska is a for-credit classroom elective that helps students develop their skillsets to overcome the many challenges they face—all while setting them up for success in the classroom, workplace and life.
JAG students build relationships with local employers, engage in project-based learning and develop a strong sense of civic and social responsibility—helping them graduate with a strong foundation to further pursue their education and career opportunities. Since starting with three schools, and thanks to the ongoing support of Nebraska Governor Pillen and the Depts. of Labor and Health & Human Services, JAG Nebraska has grown to serve nearly 4,000 students at 80 middle and high school programs across the state.
