Local League a Finalist for Community Engagement Award

The League of Women Voters (omahalwv.org) of Greater Omaha (LWVGO) says “Go Vote, Omaha!” and now the League is one of four finalists for the League of Women Voters of the United States’ Effective Community Engagement Award.

The public is welcomed to vote online until May 31st: http://lwv.org/blog/help-us-recognize-local-league-effectively-engaged-their-community.

Every day, all across the country, Leagues are engaging their communities on local issues that matter. The award will reward innovative democracy-building programs that prioritized successful recruitment and engagement of strategic partners and/or new volunteers, particularly those focused on better serving key underrepresented groups such as young voters and new citizens.

The League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha has developed a multi-pronged campaign called “Go Vote, Omaha!” to increase voter participation, as well as launching a weekly 30 minute television show called “Go Vote, Omaha!” featuring issues important to voters. The show airs weekly Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. on Omaha KPAO (Cox 22 or CenturyLink 89) with archived shows on YouTube. (Search for League of Women Voters Greater Omaha GOVOTEOmaha)

Finally, election days are declared Celebrate Democracy days. Schools and businesses are encouraged to distribute voter information toolkits to promote voting by their employees and to make it fun. Find the toolkit here: http://omahalwv.org/GOTV.html.
