Knitters, Crocheters Needed for AHA’s Little Hats, Big Hearts Project™

Volunteers from around the country are joining the American Heart Association (AHA), in connection with The Children’s Heart Foundation, to celebrate American Heart Month by knitting and crocheting red hats for newborns born at participating hospitals.

Known as Little Hats, Big Hearts™ (www.Heart.org/LittleHatsBigHearts), the project promotes awareness of heart disease and congenital heart defects, as well as serving as an opportunity to empower moms to live a heart healthy life and help their children to do the same. To support this project, AHA is asking for donations of knitted or crocheted hats and donations of red yarn. Yarn must be cotton or acrylic, medium to heavy weight and machine washable and dryable. Donations of red hats in both premature and newborn sizes (without decorations for safety reasons) are needed.

All mailed-in donations must be received at the American Heart Association’s Greater Nebraska Regional Office in Lincoln (1540 S. 70th St., Suite 100, Lincoln, NE 68506) by Friday, Jan. 13.

In-person donations can be made through Friday, Jan.13 during regular business hours at the offices in Lincoln and Omaha (9900 Nicholas St., Suite 200, Omaha, NE 68114). Three Jo-Ann Fabrics stores are also accepting donations during store business hours: 13415 West Center Rd. (Omaha), 10521 S. 15th St. (Bellevue), and 220 N. 66th St. #27 (Lincoln).
