HFS Student League Class of 2015/16 Recognized at Graduation Ceremony

The Heartland Family Service (HeartlandFamilyService.org) 2015-16 Student League class and their families celebrated graduation on Sunday, April 10 at Happy Hollow Club.

Student League, a program of the Heartland Family Service Friends Guild, was created to honor families who have been active in helping the social service community and who want to pass on that legacy to their children. Student League members are introduced to the social service community through the mission and programs of Heartland Family Service (HeartlandFamilyService.org). The students gain practical leadership experience and develop a personal commitment to volunteering by participating in this hands-on volunteer experience.

Each of this year’s 49 students attended at least 13 educational and service events from September through April for a total of 880 volunteer hours. In addition to large group events including a session with grant writers and a poverty simulation, students volunteered with several Heartland Family Service programs, including hosting holiday parties at Family Works, the Generations Center, and Ruth K. Solomon Girls Center, as well as sorting items at the Donation Center.

Suzanne Kotula was the chairman for the 2015-16 Student League, and Laura Luther was the advisor. Other committee members included Catherine Mahoney, Stephanie Murphy, Stacia Reed, and Brigid Wilkening.
