Group to Alleviate Smoking Pollution (GASP) (smokefreenebraska.org) recently attended two hearings in regards to LB285. GASP supports the prohibition of advertising that promotes electronic nicotine devices and pursued its mission at the state legislature.

Banning most flavors of such addictive products will reduce the number of children who become addicted to them and of E-Cigarettes sold to children and adults. GASP asked the committee to amend the bill to include Menthol as one of the flavors not allowed to be sold in Nebraska.

Statistics show Menthol is the flavor that is preferred by most Black and Hispanic children and adults. Candy and fruit flavors are preferred mostly by White children and adults. GASP believes laws should protect all children and adults in the same way by banning all flavors at the same time, not just the flavors preferred by the White demographic.

LB688 prohibits the advertising of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems in Nebraska. Ending the advertising for this addictive product will reduce the number of children and adults who become and stay addicted to them.

Current law requires people to be at least 21 years old to buy and use tobacco and E-cigarettes. To learn more, visit smokefreenebraska.org.
