The Junior League of Omaha held its fourth annual Big Red Block Party on November 9th at the Scott Conference Center. Former Husker and NFL veteran, Steven Warren, and his wife Heidi were honorary chairpersons for the event. Preliminary figures estimate over $25,000 was raised to support the league’s three projects: A Book of My Own, Project Hope Pack and Career Development Series.

Project Hope Pack furnishes backpacks full of necessities and comfort items to children who are unexpectedly removed from their homes as a result of a crisis. Packs are given to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Project Harmony, Nebraska Children’s Home Society and Nebraska Families Collaborative. A Book of My Own is the league’s literacy project, which puts books into the homes of children who do not have them. The league partners with agencies including Completely Kids, Kids Can, Boys & Girls Clubs and Girls Inc. to distribute the books to the children who need them.

At the sold out event that was open to the public, 350 area philanthropists, former Nebraska players and Husker fans watched Nebraska beat Michigan while they enjoyed a gourmet tailgate buffet, silent auction, photo booth, dessert buffet and great raffle prizes.
