The Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home (ENVH) recently received a donation of 60 iPod Shuffles from the Cargill Company in Blair as part of their yearly service project. The iPods have since brought comfort and joy to the veterans residing in the Home. ENVH received monetary donations from the Bellevue University and the Military Order of the Purple Heart to purchase music for the Shuffles. Many volunteers helped load the veteran’s favorite genre of music onto the Shuffles so they can have endless hours of the songs that bring back their happiest memories. The music also provides a calming effect to the veterans who may be feeling sad or anxious at times. The Activities Department learned about this method at a convention.
Each iPod is engraved with “Thank You for Your Service” and they are color coordinated by the branch of military the veteran served in. For more information about the DHHS Veterans’ Homes in Nebraska, visit http://dhhs.ne.gov/veterans or call (402) 595-2180.
