Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus Joins “I Support the Girls” Campaign
The Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus (www.lakincampus.org) became an official affiliate of the global nonprofit I Support the Girls in October of 2019. The nonprofit distributes essential items to women in need, including bras, underwear, and menstrual hygiene products. The Campus began collecting these items in July of 2019 and distributed them locally to women experiencing homelessness, domestic abuse, and sex trafficking with the help of the MICAH House, Lydia House, Stephen Center, and Phoenix House. The Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus plans to continue in its mission as a partner of I Support the Girls and expand their distribution area in 2020.
From July to December 2019, the Campus collected 1,092 bras, 2,312 tampons, 7,414 pads, and 386 new pairs of underwear to be distributed in the Council Bluffs/Omaha metro area. The Campus and I Support the Girls both believe that a woman should not have to choose between feeding herself and taking care of her personal health.
Through an international network of Affiliates, I Support the Girls collects and distributes essential items, including bras, underwear, and menstrual hygiene products, allowing women experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress to stand tall with dignity. I Support the Girls partners with over 950 vetted organizations to meet the needs of women.
The Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus is a place where all children, families, and individuals in need can find assistance, resources, and training to better enable them to become productive and contributing residents. The Campus is home to Boys and Girls Club, Heartland Family Service, MICAH house, and The Salvation Army. The Lakin Campus will continue to collect gently-used bras, sealed packages of menstrual hygiene items, and new underwear to restore dignity and self-respect to the women they support. Donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to any agency on the Campus. Please indicate that the donations are for I Support the Girls.
