Big Brothers Big Sisters Strives to Match Over 100 Kids With Mentors This Summer

There are currently over 100 kids who are waiting to be matched with a mentor, and waiting is not fun, no matter how old you are. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands (BBBSM) (www.bbbsomaha.org) is on a mission to make 2018 the “Summer of Friendship” across the Omaha Metro community by matching children with caring adult mentors. This initiative will kick off on Wednesday, May 23 in conjunction with Omaha Gives!

Littles in the BBBSM program enjoy one-on-one time with their volunteer mentor. Together they do activities like playing basketball or going to the zoo. When matched with a mentor, youth in the program are proven to have better social and academic outcomes. Support from the community does more than providing a mentor; it is helping give a child someone to look up to and cheer them on.

These kids are counting on your support during Omaha’s 24-hour day of giving to help the organization recruit, screen and train over 100 mentors to match with those who are on their waitlist.

You may give a monetary donation on this day or a donation of your time and talents as a mentor, or both! Worried you will forget? You can schedule your donation online today. Find out more about how you can help make this a “Summer of Friendship” at www.bbbsomaha.org.
