This June, 72 Omaha-area high school students completed Avenue Scholars’ (avescholars.org) four-week summer Boot Camp, an immersive career exploration program designed to prepare young people for future careers.
The program introduced high school students, mostly incoming juniors, to careers in the skilled trades, healthcare and transportation through hands-on training, industry tours and professional skill development. Scholars also earned certifications, built practical skills and connected with local employers.
Avenue Scholars partners with area schools, colleges and businesses to help students discover career pathways that lead to stable, self-sustaining employment. Boot Camp serves as an introduction to the organization’s broader career preparation program, which provides career coaching, workplace experiences and postsecondary support, starting in high school and continuing through career entry.
This year’s Boot Camp was made possible through partnerships with nearly 40 local organizations.
