2016 Heat the Streets Run Set for March 5th

Saturday, March 5, 2016 is the date for the 9th Annual Heat the Streets Run and Walk for Warmth fundraiser.

This timed 5K road race and one-mile walk raises money to help Omaha area seniors, veterans and families who struggle to pay energy-related bills.

The run and walk will start and finish at Turner Park at Midtown Crossing, 33rd and Farnam Streets. The run starts at 9 a.m., followed immediately by the walk. Registration is open at www.heatthestreetsomaha.org. Late registration the day of the event begins at 7 a.m.

Registration is $43 for the Run and $27 for the Walk.   Online registration will close March 1. Late registration at the event increases to $50 for the Run and $35 for the Walk. All participants will receive a beanie and are invited for popcorn, hot chocolate and runner award presentations at the Marcus Midtown Theater at the end of the event.

The Common Fund of the Heartland, a 501 (c) 3 tax-deductible organization, administers the funds raised by the Heat the Streets Run and Walk for Warmth through five agencies: The Salvation Army, Heartland Family Services, United Way of the Midlands, Together and Family Housing Advisory Services. Donations also may be made through Omaha Community Foundation accounts.

Sponsors include Omaha Public Power District, Metropolitan Utilities District (M.U.D.) and Black Hills Energy.
